Welcome to the official 2007 Formula 18 North Americans event site.

10-03-07 - We wanted to give a weather synopsis update for the upcoming North Americans. There is mild system making its way into Florida today. It is expected to continue through Florida and make a second land fall somewhere on the Texas/Louisiana coast by Friday or Saturday. It is expected that this system will never become very organized and will probably bring rain and wind gust up to 40 mphs. We see this type of weather in Galveston year round and has very little impact on our way of life. At this time we don't see the weather as a threat to our event. If in the event a system does develop (better chance winning the lottery), we will post here a notice here, one www.TCDYC.com , on www.naf18.com , and we will contact registered competitors via phone.

09-24-07 - Galveston has announced that self contained RV’s will be allowed to stay on East Beach.
Galveston will be charging 25.00 a night for RV’s Please send an email to jackflash@houston.rr.com if you plan on bringing an RV and how long it is so that enough area of the beach can be roped off.

09-17-07 -
The F18 North Americans have NOT been affected by Hurricane Huberto. While there was some minor damage in Galveston it was a pretty weak storm that actually hit well East of Galveston. There were some power outages and highwater, but many Texas F18 sailors were back on the beach this weekend practicing for the upcoming North Americans. We still look forward to having you join us this year for some great racing in the Gulf of Mexico.

UPDATED MESSAGE ON REFUND POLICY!!!

08-27-07 - After review of the refund policy for the 2007 North Americans the following amendment has been made.  In the event of a cancellation due to tropical storms a full refund will be returned to the entrant.  As a result of this change so close to the early payment deadline, a registration postmarked by September 5, 2007 will be  considered as an early registration and will not incur a 50.00 late fee.

The Galveston City Council has changed the city ordinance to allow RV parking on the beach overnight during the course of our event.  The do want to make it clear that tent camping is still not allowed.

The Galveston Parks Board, a separate entity has announced in the ordinance referendum to be responsible for clean up etc., as such, they have informed us that there will be a nightly camping fee.  It is there intention to determine that fee at there next meeting slated for July 24.  While our inside person thinks they are going to set the fee up in the 10-20 night range, we plan to have a representative at the meeting to lobby our group.  This has law has taken much more time than anticipated to get resolved but we appreciate everyone’s patience.  Another reminder on the subject, we have rented the pavilion on the beach for the week which includes showers and restrooms, but there are no other amenities on the beach such has RV hookups etc.

We want to clear up some confusion about the social passes.  Each entry automatically gets two social passes for the parties as part of their entry.  Additional passes for family, friends, or who ever can be purchased for 30.00 each.  The pass grants entry and food for all three parties.  The number of extra social passes may be limited after the first of October since the caterer will be booked at that time.

} It has been decided that proceeds from the regatta will be donated to the Sam Houston Sea Scouts. As a result any donation or sponsorship will be tax deductible a charity contribution to the Sea Scouts, which is a 501 (c) (3) organization.

The social schedule is almost complete.
At this time we know that after Sunday’s practice race, there will be kick off party including Texas style BBQ and a live band. Tuesday evening we will be gathering at a local night club called The Spot.

Wednesday will be our mid week party which will include another live band, hamburgers and hotdogs. Thursday we will be at another popular night club called the Boomba Room. All though it is not yet confirmed we believe that both night clubs are going to waive their cover charges for our group. Friday of ourse will be the awards banquet which is going to be held among a large number of World War II air planes at the Lone Star Flight Museum. In addition to the evening extravaganzas we have also arranged for discount tickets to many of the local attractions for any non racers that come down.

The City of Galveston is having their city counsel meeting to vote on our camping situation June 14 so we will post an update on that as soon as we have the answer.
